Contour deviation

An axis error (see Operating principle) always occurs when an axis filter acts on the axis setpoints of an axis and this leads to contour deviations. The tolerance monitoring function (see Tolerance monitoring) can be used to monitor and limit axis errors caused by axis filters.

As opposed to conventional low-pass filters, it is possible with FIR axis filters to travel parallel paths in opposite directions and obtain a good workpiece surface at the same time.

In general, these deviations have no effect on motion control applications.
